Assessments
There are two basic categories of assignments that will be assessed:
- Process – Daily Assignments, Class work, Homework (25% of Grade)
This category includes formative assessments and assignments such as note-taking, reading assignments, writing responses to the content studied, participation in discussions, simulations, and other class lessons, group assignments, quizzes and presentations. - Product – Tests, Projects, Research Paper, Formal Presentations (75% of Grade)
Product assignments are intended to assess student mastery of the content standards for a lesson, unit, or course. This category includes summative assessments such as tests, which may have essays, short answer, vocabulary, chronology, multiple choice, and/or true/false sections. Major projects, research papers, and formal presentations are also included in this category (Rubrics will be discussed when assigned). Students must achieve mastery (80% or higher) on Product assignments. Product grades below 80% do not meet the expectations in the Social Studies content area, and will be considered incomplete until mastery of is demonstrated. Students will have the opportunity to retake tests and quizzes, and revise and resubmit Product assignments until they demonstrate mastery. Once mastery is demonstrated on a retake or revised Product assignment, the grade will be recorded as 80%.
